Pastoral Care
At least twice a year the ESOL teachers telephone or meet with parents to talk about their child's progress and offer support where needed. If you have any questions or need to talk to the ESOL teachers, please feel welcome to contact us at any time by email or telephone.

Parent Talk Times
Parent Talk Time
On fortnightly Tuesday mornings at 9.00am,
parents of International Students, children attending the ESOL programme and those who speak English as their second language are invited to join Judith Anthony and Glenys Willimas in the ESOL rooms for a cup of coffee, a chat with other parents, and to learn about topics relating to the New Zealand education system and the ways we teach and learn at Fendalton School. This is also a time when you are encouraged to ask questions about your child's learning and school events or seek help with completing forms. A list of dates and discussion topics is sent home at the start of each term and is listed below. Preschool children are also welcome to come. Amy Im Sook Cho is available to translate into Korean and Japanese for those who would like this.

Our topics for Term Two 2009 are:
Tuesday 19 May - Interpreting and understanding your child's Learning Report.
Also meet Amy, who is our translator and support person for Korean and Japanese families.
Tuesday 16 June -
Using our ESOL Wiki - a practical session to help you become more involved in your child's learning.

I think it is important that parents of children attending the ESOL programme make some of the talk times, or use this wiki to participate with ideas, discussions or questions.

I wonder how we could encourage more parents to attend this meetings?
Do you find this valuable?
