Opening new ESOL rooms, farewelling Mrs Chey and sharing our learning

On Tuesday 7 April, the whole school joined together outside the new ESOL rooms to share in an opening ceremony. The Kapahaka group gave a rousing welcome, followed by a song in Korean and Maori from the ESOL children. Mr Sibson cut the ribbon and declared our two new rooms and garden officially open!

After this the ESOL community retired to the Village, where senior students shared some of their learning from the term. In particular they talked about the planting of our special garden and took the opportunity to formally thank Des Cameron from Grounds and Services Limited for the kind donation of plants and materials. The students also farwelled June Chey who is leaving at the end of Term 1. She will be missed!

Our celebration concluded with a shared lunch. Thank you to all the parents who supported this event!




Spring Carnival
봄 카니발

On Sunday 9 November, Fendalton School held a Spring Carnival fair. This was organised by the wonderful parents who belong to the Parent-Teacher Association (known as the PTA). The purpose of the fair was to raise money to build shade sails for the children to sit under on hot, sunny days.
11월 9일, 일요일 펜달톤 초등 학교에선 봄 카니발이 있었습니다. 봄 카니발은 학부모님들께서 선생님들과 함께 준비하셨습니다. 이번 카니발을 통해 얻어진 이익금들은 학생들이 점심을 먹을 수있는 그늘진 장소를 마련하기위해 쓰여질 것입니다.

As part of the carnival, the ESOL parents held an international food stall. They sold clear noodles, dumplings, green cake and sushi. The food was delicious and sold very quickly!
저희 이, 에스, 오엘학부모님들께서도 이행사에 참석하셔서 잡채, 만두, 김밥과 일본식 그린 케익을 판매하셨습니다.

We would like to thank these parents for donating their food and their time to help us raise money for the school.
음식과 시간및 여러가지로 도네이션 해주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다.


Celebration of Learning
학습 발표회

On Wednesday 30 July, the ESOL students shared their learning with their parents at an ESOL Celebration of Learning.

During this presentation they shared some of what they had learnt in their ESOL English and Maths classes during Term Two.
7월 30일, 수요일에 ESOL학생들은 부모님들을 모시고 2분기동안 배운 수학과 영어에 관해 학습 발표회를 했습니다.

Term two's English focus was Narrative writing and we focused on Fairy Tales. As part of our unit, the students read, orally retold and wrote Fairy Tales to share with younger children.
2분기 영어수업은 동화를 주제로 이야기 형식의 영어 쓰기를 중점적으로 공부를 하였습니다. 이 주제에 맞추어 어린 학생들과 함께 동화를 읽고, 말하고, 썼습니다.

At the Celebration of Learning, the children described each step of the learning process and presented examples of planning, finished products and assessment using a powerpoint presentation.
학예 발표회를 통해서 학생들은 파워포인트를 이용하여 그들이 공부한 내용들을 설명했습니다.

The students who worked with Mrs Chey presented examples of activities they had been working on.
최선생님과 함께 공부한 학생들은 그들이 공부했던 내용들을 간략하게 발표하였습니다.

Jun Sung and Seo Yeon showed their knowledge of alphabet letters, sounds and associated pictures.
준성이는 영어 알파벳 발음과 이름에 대해 그리고 서연이는 그 알파벳으로 시작되는 단어에 대해 발표하였습니다.

Blue group demonstrated their ability to count up to 20, back from 20 and skip count in 2s.
파란 그룹은 일부터 20까지 바로새고 꺼꾸러 새는 것과 2씩 건너뛰어 20까지 새는 것에 대하여 발표를 하였습니다.

Green group demonstrated how they solve addition problems to 20 using 'tens' and 'counting on' strategies.
초록 그룹은 더해서 20까지 되는 수를 두가지 방법(계속세어서 답을 구하는 방법과 10을 먼저 만들어 답을 구하는 방법)에 대하여 발표하였습니다.

Red group demonstrated their understanding of position words by putting these into sentences.
빨간 그룹은 위치를 나타내는 단어를 이용하여 문장을 만드는 방법에 대하여 발표를 하였습니다.
